For Immediate Release Media AdvisoryTUESDAY: Senate Law and Justice Committee Hearing on Beer DistributionHarrisburg – The Senate Law and Justice Committee, chaired by Sen. John Pippy (R-37), will hold a public hearing on the beer distribution system in Pennsylvania. The hearing will be held Tuesday, January 26 at 10 a.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the Capitol's North Office Building. The hearing will focus on House Bill 291, which would require all malt or brewed beverages (brewed both in-state and out-of-state) to be distributed through the existing three tier wholesale distribution system. The bill addresses a 2005 United States Supreme Court decision that ruled states may not regulate in-state wineries differently than out-of-state wineries. Currently in Pennsylvania, in-state breweries are treated differently than out-of-state breweries. Testifiers are expected to include the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, the Pennsylvania Beer Alliance, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. and the Pennsylvania Brewers Guild. CONTACT:
