Outbound Resurfacing Begins on Parkway West, Route 22/30
 Weekend Closures Scheduled

Pittsburgh, PA (August 23, 2005) –PennDOT District 11 would like to inform motorists that the outbound lanes on the Parkway West will have a weekend closure Friday, August 26  through Monday, August 29 while the highway is paved between the Interstate 79 and Route 22/30 interchanges.

The resurfacing of the Parkway West will involve four separate weekend closures.  Two weekends are scheduled for outbound resurfacing, and two weekends are scheduled for inbound.  There are no closures scheduled for the Labor Day weekend.

Additionally, there will be a one night, single lane restriction outbound on Route 22/30, Parkway West, between I-79 and the 22/30 interchange, Thursday, August 25 from 10 pm to 6 am.

The PA State Police will assist in traffic control, and posted detours for the outbound closure as follows:  Friday, August 26 at 10 pm through Monday August 29th at 6 am.

Detour for motorists traveling outbound on the Parkway (Route 22/30 West) toward the Pittsburgh International Airport/Weirton.

  • Follow I-279 to I-79 N toward Erie
  • Exit on Route 60-A North - Crafton
  • Turn left at the stop light onto Steubenville Pike (Route 60 North) for approximately 4 miles.
  • Follow signs to Airport (Route 60 North) or Route  22/30 Weirton

**The two Parkway exits to Campbell's Run Road will also close, Campbell's Run is accessible from Route 60 North (Steubenville Pike) and McMichael Road.

**There will be no inbound restrictions from the airport to Pittsburgh.

Friday evening only until 6 am Saturday morning, motorists traveling to Interstate 79 South from the parkway (inbound and outbound) will exit at Carnegie, and follow the posted detour. Motorists traveling from Washington on Interstate 79 north will exit at Kirwan Heights and follow posted detour.

Balfour Beatty Construction is the primary contractor in this $28.8 million contract at the Settler's Cabin Interchange.  All work is weather dependent and subject schedule changes.

PennDOT reminds motorists traveling through this area to add extra time to travel plans, and take extra precautions when driving through a construction zone.
