FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE $6 million state investment to yield 1,300 jobs Project near the airport could prompt economic turn around for region "With this major state investment and the potential for 1,300 new jobs in the Airport Corridor, we are encouraged at the future prospects that this project presents to the region," said state Senator John Pippy, (R-Allegheny/Washington) and Representative Mark Mustio(R-Allegheny). The Allegheny County Airport Authority will receive a $2 million loan and a $2 million grant. The Moon Transportation Authority will receive a $2 million loan in support of their joint effort to develop a new 160-acre business park along Ewing Road in Moon Township, the CFA announced on Wednesday. "This $6 million in funding is more than just a one-time investment in the Airport," said Senator Pippy. "I hope it will also serve as a catalyst that prompts economic revitalization throughout our region. We have seen some tough times at the Airport, but it remains one of our primary assets." Despite the decline of US Airways and the ongoing economic crisis in Pittsburgh, the Airport is in a position to move forward and help in the regional recovery as well, he explained. "We must look at maximizing the Airport's capability as a passenger terminal and also as a freight terminal. The funding awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority on Wednesday will help us in that effort," said Senator Pippy Representative Mustio concurred with Senator Pippy's assessment, "The opportunities for the airport corridor continue to remain strong. The investment of these funds will go a long way to stimulate further investment. Senator Pippy and I have been working together on these projects for several years, dating back to when he was in the House and I was a Moon Township Supervisor. This money will help create jobs, reduce operation costs at the Airport and take traffic off of some local roads. This is a win on so many fronts." "The funding is part of the 'Business in Our Sites' program that we established last year," said Senator Pippy. "The project will redevelop a former strip mine into a site for business, including the appropriate remediation and infrastructure improvements." When completed, the Cherrington Extension is expected to attract tech/flex development with the potential for some professional offices. The Allegheny County Airport Authority expects to bring 1,356 new jobs to the site and draw private investment of approximately $33.6 million. ### Contact: Matt Campion 412.262.2260
