Governor Rendell Signs Two of Senator Pippy's Bills into Law

The following bills were signed by the Governor on November 30, 2004.

Senate Bill 1192, sponsored by Sen. John R. Pippy (R-Allegheny/Washington), amends the Fiscal Code to allow the Treasury Department to invest in equity securities and mutual funds consisting, in whole or in part, of equity securities. This authority sunsets on December 31, 2006, but Treasury would be authorized to maintain investments in existence on the sunset date for a period of 2 years thereafter. The bill was passed in the Senate, 50-0, and was approved in the House, 196-0, where it was amended. The Senate concurred, amended and passed the bill, 47-0. The House concurred on the Senate's amendment and approved the bill, 195-0. The bill takes effect immediately.

Senate Bill 1041, sponsored by Sen. John R. Pippy (R-Allegheny/Washington), continues the Pennsylvania Senior Environmental Corps volunteer program. The Departments of Environmental Protection and Aging are charged with funding and supporting the Corps, which allows older Pennsylvanians to become involved with environment-related projects. The departments are to report annually to the General Assembly on the status of the Corps, and representatives from the Corps are to meet twice a year with the department secretaries as to the accomplishments and challenges of the Corps. The bill passed the Senate, 50-0, and was approved in the House, 196-0, where it was amended. The Senate concurred and approved the bill, 47-0. The bill takes effect in 60 days.
