IMMEDIATE RELEASE Governor Rendell Signs Two of Senator Pippy's Bills into Law The following bills were signed by the Governor on November 30, 2004. Senate Bill 1192, sponsored by Sen. John R. Pippy
(R-Allegheny/Washington), amends the Fiscal Code to allow the
Treasury Department to invest in equity securities and mutual funds
consisting, in whole or in part, of equity securities. This authority
sunsets on December 31, 2006, but Treasury would be authorized to
maintain investments in existence on the sunset date for a period of 2
years thereafter. The bill was passed in the Senate, 50-0, and was
approved in the House, 196-0, where it was amended. The Senate
concurred, amended and passed the bill, 47-0. The House concurred on the
Senate's amendment and approved the bill, 195-0. The bill takes effect
immediately. Senate Bill 1041, sponsored by Sen. John R. Pippy
(R-Allegheny/Washington), continues the Pennsylvania Senior
Environmental Corps volunteer program. The Departments of Environmental
Protection and Aging are charged with funding and supporting the Corps,
which allows older Pennsylvanians to become involved with
environment-related projects. The departments are to report annually to
the General Assembly on the status of the Corps, and representatives
from the Corps are to meet twice a year with the department secretaries
as to the accomplishments and challenges of the Corps. The bill passed
the Senate, 50-0, and was approved in the House, 196-0, where it was
amended. The Senate concurred and approved the bill, 47-0. The bill
takes effect in 60 days. |
