Mustio and Pippy Land $800,000 to Improve Pittsburgh International Airport

PITTSBURGH— Representative Mark Mustio (R-Allegheny) and Senator John R. Pippy (R-Allegheny) announced today that the Pittsburgh International Airport will receive approximately $800,000 in state funding in order to rehabilitate airplane taxiways C, N, T and V.

"As a member of the recently established Pennsylvania House Airport Study Commission, I could not be more pleased to help Pittsburgh International complete another positive step to become a more attractive venue for both national and global air carriers," said Representative Mustio. "While we all hope that US Airways continues flying out of Pittsburgh, with so many family-sustaining jobs and a stable revenue source at stake, our plans to bring additional affordable airline providers to the southwestern Pennsylvania region simply cannot get stuck in a 'holding pattern,' which is what obtaining this crucial funding is all about."

As a former member of the Allegheny County Airport Authority who promoted several important initiatives for the airport corridor including the funding of Industry Drive, the Air Cargo Interchange, and the Findlay Connector, Senator Pippy concurred with Representative Mustio's assessment.

"Securing this funding provides a tremendous boost for the airport and our regional economy and transportation infrastructure," said Senator Pippy. "Just as importantly, completing this extremely critical rehabilitation project will allow Pittsburgh International to substantially reduce its overall debt burden and costs-per-passenger. What we're talking about here is basically a jobs issue. As we to continue work through the impact of US Airways' restructuring we must remain vigilant in our efforts to keep our region's airways open, affordable and customer friendly."

The $800,000 grant is funded under the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Block Grant and Aviation Development programs.
