IMMEDIATE RELEASE South Fayette, Quaker Valley in Project 720 Only 22 Districts Selected for New High School Program Two high schools in the 37th Senatorial District are among a small group chosen by the state to implement a new program geared to improve curriculum and increase graduation rates, according to Senator John Pippy. South Fayette School District and Quaker Valley School District are among only 22 districts statewide selected to receive full implementation grants for the new "Project 720" program. More than 150 districts expressed an interest in the program, which is named after the 720 days that a student spends in high school. South Fayette and Quaker Valley will each receive technical assistance and a $50,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to help them move toward the overall goals of increased the rigor of educational programs; enhancing post secondary access and credentialing for increasing numbers of students; and, producing active and productive citizens. "This is a new area of focus for the state as many of our education programs and reforms have targeted early education and elementary schools," Senator Pippy said. "I think this is an excellent move and I hope the lessons that we learn from the Project 720 program in South Fayette and Quaker Valley can help all of our schools take the steps needed to ensure our young people receive the education they need to be productive members of our high-tech society." |
