HONORS SERVICE MEMBERS
ADOPTS SENATOR PIPPY'S ARMED FORCES WEEK RESOLUTION
The State Senate adopted, on May 11th, a resolution introduced by
Senator John Pippy, R-37th District, recognizing the members of the United
States military who are serving overseas in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom and Iraqi Freedom
"With this resolution, the Senate thanks our military men and women and
we can also send on the best wishes of a grateful Commonwealth," Senator
Pippy. "We express our unwavering support and sincere appreciation to all
members of our Armed Services for their bravery and patriotism and we
acknowledge their families for their support and sacrifice to promote
freedom and security around the world."
Senator Pippy's Resolution is part of the Senate's commemoration of
"Armed Forces Week' in Pennsylvania, which ran from May 8 through 16.
Armed Forces Day was established by President Harry S. Truman in 1949 and
is celebrated on the third Saturday in May.
"Throughout our nation's history, Pennsylvania's sons and daughters
have answered the call of duty with honor and distinction time and time
again," Senator Pippy said. "That proud and storied legacy of service by
Pennsylvanians continues today with thousands of our fellow citizens
working to bring peace and protect freedom in trouble spots around the
world.
"Today, the Pennsylvanians serving in the active duty components of the
armed services are joined by hundreds of citizen-soldiers from Reserve and
National Guard units from across the Commonwealth," Senator Pippy
continued. "We are strengthened by the service of hundreds of men and
women who have put their civilian lives on hold and have taken up arms for
our country."
